Homer describes Bodrum as "The land of eternal blue" and the words of another resident of Bodrum, Cevat Şakir, who said "The heavenly bliss of life in Bodrum is better than any eternal bliss that may await us" were not without foundation in reality. Throughout history of Bodrum, known as Halicarnassos in ancient times, has always been fought over and people have been unwilling to share its beauty with others.
Built on a peninsula formed by the meeting of the eastern and western harbors, Bodrum, with its narrow streets winding down to the sea, is famous for its castle, its world-renowned yachts, its shipyards and the dazzling white houses and tombs lining the shores of its two harbors.
Bodrum, has the all facilities to meet the expectations of tourists from all income levels, ranging from the rich yacht owners to the penny counting tourists who just want a reasonable room to make his vacation last all summer.
When you arrive to the port of Bodrum, your private guide will be waiting to lead you to your own luxury vehicle, in which you can relax as your private shore excursion.
Depart from port of Bodrum and you will start visiting Bafa Lake. The lake is surrounded by the Latmos Mountains (Turkish: “Besparmak“) which rise up to 1400 meters. These mystic mountains are an excellent area for ambitious hiking and trekking tours. Since 700 A.D hermits and monks have left their marks on these remote mountain slopes. Byzantine Monasteries and hermit caves are a favourite destination for study trips.
The Village Kapikiri is a particularly suitable location for study and hiking trips. Situated close by the lake and below the Latmos Mountains, but not far away from the town of Bafa, where the turn-off to Kapikiri can be found. The village Kapikiri is built on the ruins of the ancient city Heracleia, the present houses in many cases resting directly on the ancient foundations. Stones from surrounding ruins where used to build the new houses, streets and property demarcations. Therefore, the whole village has received monument protection status.
Your last visit will be to Didyma. Didyma means “twins” and it was associated by some as being the meeting place of Zeus and Leto to have their twins Apollo and Artemis. Didyma was famed as a prophecy center dedicated to Apollo, which served a similar purpose as the Delphi of Anatolia. It was not a city but a sanctuary linked to Miletos by Milesians with a 19 km/12 mi sacred road. After all the visits, you will turn back to port of Bodrum.
This is a private tour and includes a driver and a separate English-speaking guide who will accompany you into all attractions to provide commentary.
